Terra Roots Co. is a non-profit society that builds community connection through local food. We teach practical kitchen skills, share fresh seasonal produce from our partner farms, and bring learning to farmers’ markets. We make eating local accessible, inspiring, and fun.
OUR STORY
Terra Roots Co started when four friends were brought together by the shared love of good food, vibrant farmers' markets, and meaningful conversations.
Since 2020, we've been passionate about connecting our community with locally grown produce, unique flavours, and teaching food skills through our signature programs: the Trifecta Produce Box, Cooking Workshops, and foodie events. Terra Roots Co. is all about celebrating local farmers, food and the joy of coming together.

Melissa Balfour
Melissa is someone who believes deeply in connection—whether that’s around a kitchen table, at a community gathering, or through music shared with friends. She loves creating spaces where people feel welcome, inspired, and a little more grounded. Curiosity drives her, and she's always looking for new ways to learn, grow, and help others do the same. When she's not busy dreaming up projects, you’ll usually find her with a cup of tea in hand, laughing with her son, or planning her next adventure.
Karen Curtis
With over 40 years experience in the food industry, Karen sees herself as a connector. She connects people with food in meaningful ways. As a community kitchen facilitator Karen believes her role is to work with people’s abilities, budgets, and needs to create beautiful meals. She is passionate about food security and supporting local farmers and producers. She has experience as a food manufacturer and recipe developer, and is veteran of the farmers market world, successfully running KICS Lemonade for 24 years.
Meg Railton
Meg brings equal parts enthusiasm and precision to everything she does. With a gift for organization and a passion for people, she thrives on streamlining the details that keep projects moving while building strong, collaborative relationships along the way. As a natural communicator and engaging public speaker, Meg inspires cooperation and connection—qualities that make her an invaluable part of Terra Roots Co.
Sophie Towne
Sophie brings a holistic spirit to everything she does, whether she’s a vendor at a bustling farmers’ market, creating jewelry by hand, or studying reiki. With a passion for connection, she thrives on hosting workshops and building community—helping people feel seen, supported, and inspired. Warm, kind, and family-oriented, Sophie’s heart is rooted in her loved ones (including her two beloved dogs) and in the vibrant local food community she serves across Metro Vancouver.
